Vegetarians, Veganism and Pumping Pumpkins

Updated: Oct 9, 2022

“The Doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.”

Those words from Thomas Eddison capture so many reasons why we just love plants as food. The famous inventor and business man recognised that the nutritional advantages of sun-soaked veggies and beautiful ripe fruits, full of juice and goodness, simply can not be replaced by modern production. Whatever the packets say and wherever that comes from.

We share this inventive business nature at V on Wheels.

It’s also thanks to our wonderfully conscientious agriculturists and small business growers that we get to choose the quality of our plant foods still. Let’s take a moment to thank them and appreciate their efforts every single day in what must be a challenging environment. We understand this ideology too at V on Wheels, as we constantly break down barriers to maintain our values amidst a saturated market place of frozen meals who prioritise cost over quality and compromise nutrition for efficiency.

We will always be different.

We will always strive to be better.

We will always listen to the environment.

In further recognising plants as food let’s give a shout out to the NZ Vegetarian Society who are celebrating throughout October for World Vegetarian Month. On the 1st of October all around the world veggie lovers recognised the World Vegetarian Day established back in 1977. At the end of October we lead into World Vegan Day on the 1st November. The Vegan Society was founded in November 1944, with the anniversary being chosen as the 1st of November. It was Lousie Wallace the then Chair, who decided on the 1st November as World Vegan Day because she liked the idea of it coinciding with Samhain/Hallowe’en! Have a look into those and see the connection! Can you guess it before hand…

Hallowe’en is fast approaching for some fun times and fun food too! We’re lucky in New Zealand to be enjoying Spring

weather! Pumpkin is almost symbolic of Hallowe’en. People all over the world and in whatever season love the flavour and texture for its versatility across sweet and savoury. It is also highly nutritious and low in calories. What a wonder-food!

Did you also know that pumpkin is actually a fruit? Seriously – it is! Even though it tastes so yummy in our savoury dishes such as Spinach & Pumpkin Lasagne. We also have 23% pumpkin in our Veggie & Chickpea Curry if you're on the hunt for meals to celebrate Hallowe’en with.

Not to be outdone by savoury, we’ve paired our new range of extreme plant cakes with the Lasagne meal for a killer combo of indulgence. Remembering how lovely it is to share food with those close to us, add some extra greens or a salad and stretch this for two!

Fun Facts: The largest ever Pumpkin weighed in a 2624 pounds Woaw – that’s the equivalent of a massive 2645 of our meals because each one is almost a “pound’ in weight.

Whatever you’re planning of Hallowe’en, Vegetarian Month or World Vegan Day, remember that you really are what you eat. It is that simple and it is that pure.
